Winter (December – April)

The Kedarkantha Trek: All that you need! Covered in deep snow packing the trail and camping areas, it is a spectacular winter wonderland. The site of the snow-covered peaks and frozen lakes is a sight to behold that many dreamt of accomplishing.

Trekyaari provides a good itinerary of Kedarkantha Trek.

The hike usually takes place over 6 days and each leg of the hike is broken down into a number of stages to aid you in adjusting to the altitude and make sure that you have an enjoyable and safe experience. Here is a rough itinerary you can expect with Trekyaari:

Day 1 : Dehradun - Sankri (200kms){10-12 Hour Journey}

FIRST DAY – LONG YET SCENIC DRIVE FROM DEHRADUN TO Sankri A long drive from Dehradun drives to Sankri. You’ll travel through delightful hilltop stations, quaint villages and stunning landscapes. Upon arrival at Sankri you check- in to your hotel/guest-house, meet your trek guide and get ready for the trek the next day.

Day 2: Sankri to Juda Ka Talab (5 km, 5-6 Hrs)

We leave after a filling breakfast, as the ascend takes us towards Juda Ka Talab – a clear watered, pine-surrounded lake. The track winds through thick stands of oak and pine with the first sight of snow (during winter). This is a decent spot for that nighttime campfire and star gazing!

Day 3: Juda Ka Talab – Kedarkantha Base (4 km, 4-5 Hours)

Somehow you’ll drag yourself out of your sleeping bag on day three for a hike from Juda Ka Talab to the Kedarkantha Base Camp. The hike is mostly up for today, but of course we have amazing views pretty much all the way – it’s the tallest of these mountains and really gives us a great perspective! There will be plenty of time at base camp to relax and take in the scenery while acclimatizing.

Day 4: Kedarkantha Base Camp to Kedarkantha Summit and Return to Base Camp (6 km, 7-8 hours)

This is by far the most challenging day of the trek and my absolute favorite. Wake up early and we start the climb to the Kedarkantha Summit. As you reach the top, You will have Lovely sightseeing of Swargarohinii peaks, Black peak etc. After having taken in the views – and snapping your Instagram photos – you will descend back to base camp for a night’s sleep.

Day 5: Kedarkantha Base Camp to Sankri (6 km, 5-6 hours)

Have your breakfast early and trek down to Sankri. The way down is faster and easier than the climb, but you’ll need to mind your step in the rockier sections. And when you get to Sankri, you party for your trek.

Day 6 : Sankri - Dehradun (Drive10 - 12 Hrs)

Post breakfast, you will begin your descending trip to Dehradun. The stunning memories of the trek can be treasured while on the return journey.
